Crusader
by Jack Hollander
I painted this model of the F8J Crusader using Testors Model Masters Gull Gray over White.
I used Bare Metal Foil on the tailpipe and on the leading edge, adding MV lenses to the landing gear and nose gear door.
Instead of using the ordinance that came with the kit, I used missiles from a monogram kit. The kit came with sidewinders and Zuni rocket pods.
I “pinned” the missiles by drilling a hole, inserting brass wire into the hole, then gluing the missile to the pin. I also dipped the canopy in Future floor wax.
Overall it was a good kit that went together quite easily. Although some of the reviews said that there were sink-marks on it, I didn’t find any.

Blackbeard
By Jason Hardy
I used all Tamiya paints on this Atlantis model of Blackbeard.
Highlighting with brown and black washes and adding a 3mm LED powered by AA batteries rounded out the project.
Note how worn the deck looks, as well as the broken bottle.
Rosebud
Hub Hobby’s original building on Broad St in New Orleans has been demolished. Word of it being torn down spread like wildfire.
One of our customers, Jim Letten, was emailed by his friend Martin about the demolition of their childhood hang-out.
The subject line was: ROSEBUD
“Rosebud” was the dying word spoken by Orson Welles in the movie Citizen Kane: a reference to his childhood sled – the symbol of memories of youthful innocence.
